NEWS & VIEWS 2020

We work hard to get our efforts noticed by the media and are so proud when this goal comes to fruition. A well informed community is an empowered one as well, so take a look at some of the latest coverage we’ve received below and help spread the word about all the amazing developments at CHETWYND ASTON & WOODCOTE
PARISH COUNCIL.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

The NHS is looking for volunteers to support the roll-out of the vaccination programme in Telford and Wrekin and have asked us to contact you to see if you can help. We have now received confirmation that this will begin next week.

We need extra support to ensure the vaccination programme is implemented smoothly, especially to our first cohort of patients who are elderly and most of whom will be in the vulnerable category.

The Teldoc Covid-19 vaccination site will be at Malinslee Surgery. It will operate every day, 8.30am – 7pm. The day will be broken into a morning and an afternoon session. Your role would be to support the NHS clinical team to ensure the smooth flow of patients entering and exiting the surgery and to assist patients to navigate within the surgery once they are inside. This includes the maintenance of the 2 metre social distancing rule.

The programme will run from 28 December 2020 until at least late spring 2021.

The only PPE that will be required for the role is a facemask and this will be provided.

If you are interested please contact: Elaine Edwards, Head of quality governance and clinical workforce at Teldoc via email: elaine.edwards12@nhs.net

Please do not contact the council regarding this volunteering opportunity, as our offices are now closed until the new year.

Thank you for your continued support.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE STOCKING UP OVER CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR

Make sure you are stocking up for all your health needs over the Christmas and New Year period, say health bosses at Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).

With the festivities fast approaching, check that you have the essentials such as ibuprofen, paracetamol, antiseptic cream, plasters and indigestion treatment at home.

All of these are available to buy without a prescription at a small cost from a pharmacy, supermarket and other stores. Your pharmacist will also be able to give you free advice on minor conditions and over-the-counter treatments.

If you have a regular prescription, make sure you have enough to cover the festive period and you collect it in advance.

GP practices in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day Bank Holiday (Monday, 28 December) and New Year’s Day, but there are other services available.

For anyone who needs urgent medical help or advice they can call NHS 111 for free 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or they can access the service online at 111.nhs.uk.

CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR BIN COLLECTIONS REMINDER

Your recycling and waste collections will change over the festive period.

Check which containers to put out on your collection calendar or at www.telford.gov.uk/bindayfinder

THE NEXT NATIONAL CENSUS IS COMING

By taking part, you can help to inform decisions on services that shape your community, such as schools, doctors’ surgeries and bike lanes.

It’s important you fill in your census questionnaire because the information you share affects the life of every single person living in England and Wales. Because these things matter to us all, everyone needs to complete the census.

Do not worry, your information is protected by law. That means government officials dealing with payments or services you receive cannot see it.

Census Day is Sunday 21 March. You can fill yours in online as soon as you get your access code in the post.

If your household circumstances change on Census Day, you can let The Office for National Statistics (ONS) know.

If you need help, you can visit www.census.gov.uk where there’s a wide range of support services available.

“Telford and Wrekin Council want to ensure every pensioner in Telford and Wrekin is aware of and can apply for financial support, assistance and all benefits they are entitled to and it is part of our commitment to protect and care for our residents. There are many things to think about when you become a pensioner – from looking after your money and making ends meet, to keeping safe, warm, healthy and being able to remain active. OMEGA CHARITY - RECYCLING INITIATIVE

In addition to 'Chatterbox' and 'A Letter from Louise', Omega also have a recycling initiative 'Peter's Stamp Appeal' collecting used postage stamps to raise funds for Omega and would be grateful for your help with this.

You can read more about Omega  recycling schemes here.

OMEGA CHARITY - SUPPORTS SOCIALLY ISOLATED PEOPLE

Omega operate two projects within Shrewsbury, both of which are free of charge.

Chatterbox
This is a telephone befriending scheme.  Our volunteer befrienders are matched with clients and are happy to talk about anything as well as offering emotional support.  You can see more information here

A Letter from Louise
This is a penpal befriending service.  As with Chatterbox our volunteer befrienders are matched with clients with similar interests so they can share stories and experiences.  It is also possible for clients only to receive letters.  All post is directed via our office using a freepost system so clients addresses are confidential. Many of our befrienders include photos and pictures with their letters.  You can see more information here

We find that people who are lonely or socially isolated are hard to find.  We hope that with your help our service can be promoted.  If you require more information please contact my colleague Claire at community@omega.uk.net who will be able to help you further.
